Congratulations and welcome to the Cooper community! We encourage you to take this time to get to know us better by reaching out to a Cooper student ambassador and joining the admitted student Facebook group.

There are a number of pertinent and time sensitive next steps. Please carefully review the below.

First

  • Respond to Your Offer of Admission & Make Your Deposit

    • 1) Sign in to your applicant portal here and respond to your offer of admission. The portal also contains instructions and login credentials to view your financial aid awards.

      2) Once you accept your offer of admission, a deposit link will appear. Submit your Non-refundable Deposit of $1,135.00 (undergraduate) $1,400 (graduate). This deposit represents the student fee and lab materials fee for the fall semester.

      3) Set Up your CooperID
Set up your unique CooperID by following instructions here. Please be sure to activate this account as soon as possible, as you will receive important communications from Financial Aid, the Registrar, and Student Affairs through your cooper.edu email.

      4) Complete the Multi-Factor Authentication registration and sign in to your Office 365 account.

  •  Admitted Students Day

    • Save the date—Sunday, April 16, 2023

    • The event will start in our historic Great Hall in the afternoon followed by school-specific breakout sessions, and the program will conclude with a reception at Grace Church School. Check the applicant portal for more program details.

After Submitting Your Deposit

  • International Students: Complete Your I-20 Application

    • International students are required to submit an I-20 application. Instructions are available here.

    • When submitting your I-20 application, plan to complete it at least 4 months before coming into the U.S. The deadline to submit your I-20 application is June 1.

  • Discuss your Financial Aid & Student Accounts

Make an appointment to meet with a member of the Financial Aid or Student Accounts team to ask any question you may have regarding your aid or your accounts.

  • First-Year Students: Apply for Housing

Students in their first year may elect to stay in our Student Residence Hall, located three minutes from campus. Our housing application will be live March 1 and available here.

  • Submit Your Final Transcripts

    • Send an official copy of your final transcript from your high school and/or college, certifying your graduation and/or completion of college coursework by July 1.

    • International Students: All official transcripts must be translated into English with the date of graduation clearly indicated. An official transcript includes a signature from a school official and a school stamp/seal.

  • Submit Your Health Forms

    • You must submit the following forms: 1) personal medical history (parts I & II), 2) physician’s medical clearance form, 3) immunization form, 4) meningococcal meningitis vaccination response form, and 5) emergency action plan form. All five required forms are available here and in your applicant portal under the admitted student checklist tab. If you have questions about these forms, please contact the office of student affairs at healthforms@cooper.edu. Please note, New York State requires proof of immunization from measles, mumps, and rubella before starting as a Cooper Union student.

    • In addition, The Cooper Union requires all students to be vaccinated against COVID-19, unless they apply for a religious or medical exemption (contact us at admissions@cooper.edu as soon as possible, do not wait until August). Your results will need to be uploaded in the CUSafe app before classes begin in the fall.

    • While completing the health forms, students are encouraged to make contact with Alex Fischer, director of student care and support, if they have specific questions about physical or mental health and/or disability accommodation services. Please email Alex Fischer at alex.fischer@cooper.edu with any questions or concerns.

  • Register for Your Classes

    • First-year students are automatically registered for courses, and your schedule will be available in the self-service portal by August. Transfer students will be notified by their advisors.

  • Deferral Policy

    • Please read our deferral policy and requirements for seeking a deferral here

We have also put together a Resource Guide. Please reach out to admissions@cooper.edu with any additional questions.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
